Quick start
The short version. For a guided walkthrough with a real task, see Your first hour.
1. Install
Works on macOS and Linux.
curl -fsSL https://get-slo.sh/install.sh | bash
2. Start Slo in a project
cd ~/code/your-project
slo
Or point it at a folder from anywhere:
slo ~/code/your-project
The first time, Slo asks you to sign in to OpenAI, Anthropic, Kimi For Coding or OpenRouter. You can switch later with /auth.
3. Ask for something
Describe the task the way you'd explain it to a colleague:
"Write a feature specification for the payments module."
"Add tests for the refund calculation. Don't change the service code."
"Open a merge request for this branch with a summary of the changes."
You don't need to know skill names. Slo picks the ones that fit. If you're curious what it has, ask:
"What skills do you have for Vue components?"
4. Get more out of it
- Write briefs, not one-liners. Say what done looks like and what's off limits. How to write a brief.
- Add an
SLO.mdto your project with how to run tests and your ground rules. It's loaded every session. Give Slo a memory. - Learn five commands:
/model,/diff,/steer,/abort,/rename. All slash commands.
Other ways to run it
No UI. Run one task and get JSON lines back:
slo run -p "Add type hints to every function in src/utils.py"
Pick up where you left off:
slo --resume <session-id-or-name>
Update:
slo update
